September Happened (boring mini-update)
Can't say a whole lot. Still in the trenches. Will write more (I hope). Send funny videos or animal facts.
So. September happened. That’s about all I can say about that? Lol.
My nervous system is doing significantly better. I’m excited for October. Definitely my favorite month. I like the spooky and the fun. I’m watching “Interview with the Vampire” so I can get to “The Vampire Lestat.” I’ve seen too many TikToks of the character crashing out and acting like a snarky, deranged diva that I now feel compelled to know what is going on. The kids also love Halloween movies, including Hannah, so we kicked things off last weekend with “Casper.”
Quincy is an October baby, and last year he wanted a big birthday party. I can’t remember why, but it didn’t happen the way he’d hoped. I’ve been promising that kid for the past year that this year he’d get a “mega birthday party,” and he has been reminding me on a regular basis the entire time. Friends and cousins. As many people as he wants. He’s like a mini terrorist with his demands, but to be fair, he is overdue, so I can’t really blame him. He hasn’t had a big birthday party yet like Hannah has in the past. So, laser tag or Bounce Bounce it is, I guess. I need to get on that this week.
I almost forgot that the Texas Renaissance Festival was open. I’m going to try to buy a ticket and take the kids in November. On Sundays, kids under 13 get in free, so I’m trying to plan around that. They’re both very excited. I want to take them during the Heroes and Villains weekend. Trying to keep Hannah from spending all of her birthday money before we even go is almost a moot point.
I’ve started a few blog posts, only to abandon them because I haven’t had the bandwidth to finish them. Creative writing takes a little more energy than updates like this one. But writing this helps too, on a smaller level, so I’ll take it. There are also just a few ideas I’ve had for a long time, so maybe I’ll get around to one of them instead?
And there is one blog post I keep waffling on about publishing in the future. Maybe in the new year, but I'm not sure yet. If or when it happens, it will lean more on research than anything else. I might have to break it up so it’s a three parter. I'm excited about it. It'll be a good mini project for the next few months, at least in between all the “homework” that keeps popping up. Having a journalism background will come in handy if I do decide to share it.
Other things going on? Both a lot and not much at the same time. The poor cat is still having issues. I’m trying to prepare the kids for having to put her down. I talked to their therapist, and she suggested getting a new cat before putting the old one down so they have a cat to comfort them, but I don’t know. There’s a lot to consider there.
Hobbies: D&D nights on hold until things get a little more settled and hammered out. I may try to go to the gun range this month or next. I miss it. I need to sit down and clean my guns, though before I go. I’ve been terrible about getting around to that. I also need to do some more training with Mando. That’s a priority so I can finally take the nut out on walks. I’d like to do it early in the morning, but we’ll have to see. I have other things I’d like to get around to, but everything keeps bouncing back and forth between paused and not. I’m just trying to roll with it for the time being. If anything, once the kids go to bed, I can usually put my headphones on and dance in the kitchen. I haven’t done that in a really long time, but it’s been happening more often, so I’ll take it.
