For the curious. Social media does not like gun posts and will shadow-ban them. I get it. I understand why. But I'm still annoyed and want to share, so I'm doing it here.
Date: 05-30-25
Location: Texas Gun Club in Stafford
Class: Handgun 201 (Holster Class)
How It Went:
I probably rescheduled this class three times for various reasons, but the main one being I didn't feel fully comfortable yet and wanted to have a bit more confidence with my Sig. But I went last night and I'm glad I did.
It was a small class with maybe five of us total. I'd had the same instructor for both Handgun 101, and for my License to Carry (Texas is insane. Open carry without a license is legal here). Found out at the end of the class that because I took the class, private lessons are 50% off, so about $50 a hour. I might take him up on that.
I shot alright. I was nervous so I didn't do as well as I'd have liked. He corrected my form slightly and it definitely helped. Focused more on technique than speed, which I appreciated.
Not Related to the Class: The club has as new membership option! $25 a month and you can go in any time for a lane. They raised the price on lane rentals so it's now $21 for an hour, so if you join and go even twice a month then it's definitely worth it. I got the membership a couple of months ago and I'm glad I did. It doesn't have any of the other benefits of the more expensive memberships, but I'm fine with that. I've been trying to go once a week, but that hasn't always been possible, but I've for sure gone enough so far to benefit from it.

(I'm also working on another blog post. This place isn't dead. I've just struggled having time. But I'm half way done with one. And I have a monster of blog in the works. It's been a beast to make notes and outline, let alone write. But I think that's because a lot of my blogs help me solidify and organize my thoughts. The more complex, the longer it takes. But more are coming.)

Guns Rented:
Sig Sauer 365X again
How It Went:
It went well, but I've done better. The gun kept jamming. I asked the man behind the counter about it and then I found out it was my fault. lol. I guess my grip wasn't tight enough because he said what was happening was I had a 'limp wrist'. Great. Well, I have something to focus on next time.

Guns Rented:
Smith & Wesson EZ .380 (they didn't have the 9mm as I'd hoped for).
Sig Sauer 365X (it was all that they had available today)
I've shot both before and enjoy them.
How It Went:
Kids hung out with me until Jack could pick them up. Hannah was shocked when I told her 7 year olds and up were allowed to shoot with a parent. She seemed keen on the idea.
I'm getting better! I need to learn how to keep both eyes open. I also have poor eyesight. I wear contacts, but because I have astigmatism, I don't see nearly as well as I would if I wore my glasses. I'm thinking about getting new glasses that would be good for the range at my next eye appointment (luckily, that's coming up soon).
I really like both guns a lot. I'm playing with the idea of getting the EZ .380, if only because if Hannah ever starts going with me, it would be a good gun for her to also learn on. I really love the grip safety on it as it forces me to focus on keeping a correct grip on it, which would be good for her to learn as well.
It was also "Women's Wednesday," so I got a free rental and discounted lane charges. The gentleman was nice and gave me the second rental free as well as an extra target. Overall, it was cheaper by at least $40.
I've been talking to Jack about getting the mid-tier membership there (you get additional discounts, including 50% off of classes). I'd like to get the highest membership, but Jack questions whether I'd really get my money's worth out of it. After twelve years he still greatly underestimates my ability to spend money.
